First Aid Work 3 Day Course

Course Overview
This course is approved by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and teaches candidates the core skills required to enable them to work efficiently and effectively as the companies designated First Aider. It is ideal for individuals as well as organisations who require qualified first aiders in the work-place.
Course Contents
- Understanding the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions;
- Understanding the importance of basic hygiene in first-aid procedures;
- assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
- Administration of first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure;
- Administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
- Administration of first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock;
- Administration of first aid to a casualty who is choking;
- Appropriate application of first aid for minor injuries.
- Recognising the presence of major illness and apply general first aid principles in its management.
In addition, candidates should be able to demonstrate the correct first-aid management of:
- Soft tissue injuries;
- Injuries to bones including suspected spinal injuries;
- Chest injuries;
- Burns and scalds;
- Eye injuries including how to irrigate an eye;
- Sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock.
Course structure and duration
A 3 day (6 hours each day) course which includes training, all associated course materials and demonstrations. Delegates are encouraged to actively participate in discussion sessions and group activities.
Assessment
The course is continually assessed throughout the day. On the third day an assessor (in line with HSE requirements) who has not been involved in the training will attend and formally assess the candidate’s abilities to perform first aid tasks.
Certification is Issued by ABC Training which has tutors certified by the RIPH/CIEH
